Itinerary 5 days/ 4 nights: Santiago de Compostela – Barcelona
1st Day: Santiago de Compostela
Our trip aboard the Tren Al Andalus begins in Santiago de Compostela, where at 10:00 a.m., we will be received by the crew. After being assigned our cabin, we will go out to visit Santiago de Compostela and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we will continue our visit to the Galician city to finally return to the train to have dinner on board while we arrive at Monforte de Lemos.
The train will be parked in Monforte de Lemos at night to facilitate rest.
2nd Day: Ribera Sacra - Astorga
This day, after breakfast, we will visit the Ribera Sacra, we will cross the Sil River in a catamaran and then, we will visit one of the wineries in the region.
Lunch will be on board the train when we arrive in Astorga. This city is well known for its historical monuments, its walls (national monument); the Gothic cathedral (1471), with Plateresque and Baroque decorations; the 18th century Town Hall; and the 19th century Episcopal Palace, designed by Antonio Gaudí.
After a brief visit to Astorga and dinner, we will return to the comfort of our rooms on board the train.
3rd Day: León - Burgos
After breakfast, we will visit the city of León, on the Bernesga River in northwestern Spain, capital of the León Province. This city is home to many churches and a cathedral noted for their architecture and art. Among them is the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral of León, with its towers and flying buttresses, and the 10th-century Romanesque Basilica of San Isidoro, known for its frescoes and royal tombs.
We will enjoy lunch on board the train upon arrival in Burgos, a beautiful city located in Castilla y León. Burgos was selected as the “Spanish Capital of Gastronomy” in 2013. In 2015, it was named “City of Gastronomy” by UNESCO. We will take a guided tour of the city.
We will end the day in Burgos with a delicious dinner and accommodation in our luxury train.
4th Day: Burgos - Logroño
After a delicious breakfast we will go to the Museum of Human Evolution, located on the south bank of the Arlanzón River, about 16 kilometers west of the impressive Sierra de Atapuerca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There we can see the most relevant human fossils on the planet.
Later, we will board the train to Logroño, while we enjoy lunch on board. Finally, we will move to Elciego (Eltziego), where we will visit the famous “Bodega del Marqués de Riscal”. We will have the opportunity to taste its excellent wines and visit this impressive 21st century castle that was designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry. A masterpiece of art and architecture with a privileged location in the so-called “City of Wine”.
In the city of Logroño, we will take a special dinner aboard our train.
5th Day: Zaragoza - Barcelona
.Early this morning we will move to Zaragoza, while we enjoy breakfast on board the train. Once in Zaragoza, we will take a panoramic city tour, we will visit the Plaza del Pilar and the Alfajería Palace.
We will have lunch on board while we head to our last destination, in the city of Barcelona, where we will leave the train.
Itinerary 5 days/ 4 nights: Barcelona – Santiago de Compostela
1st Day: Barcelona - Zaragoza
At 10:00 am, we will receive you in the reception area of the hotel. This is the perfect time to get to know each other, as you will all be traveling together for the next week. Before departure, enjoy a panoramic tour of Barcelona. Barcelona is famous for its stunning architecture, lively nightlife, sandy beaches and world-class cuisine, vibrant cultural heritage and colorful cultural festivals that attract visitors from all over the world.
Lunch is served on board as the train heads towards its first stop, Zaragoza, the fifth largest city in Spain. Zaragoza has a lot to offer visitors, from fascinating museums to grand cathedrals and fortresses. Visit the beautiful Plaza del Pilar, home to the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar and the Alfajería Palace, a magnificent fortification dating back to the 11th century. Free time.
Finally, we will have dinner and sleep aboard the Al Andalus Luxury Train in Zaragoza.
2nd Day: La Rioja - Burgos
We will have breakfast on board while the train arrives in Logroño. Transfer to Elciego (Eltziego), where we will visit the famous Bodega del Marqués de Riscal, known for its spectacular shapes and silhouette. We will learn the process of making wine, followed by a wine tasting and a tour of this impressive 21st century Chateau, which was designed by the internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry and is a true masterpiece, with an excellent location in «The City of Wine».
Lunch on board while the train travels to Burgos, named “City of Gastronomy” by UNESCO. We will have a tourist visit to Burgos. Among other places, we will visit the old Gothic Cathedral, which is the resting place of a famous Spanish knight. Free time in the afternoon, which will allow you to delve into the history of Burgos.
We will end the day in Burgos with a delicious dinner and accommodation in our luxury train.
3rd Day: Burgos - León
In our third day, we will breakfast on board the train. In the morning, we will visit the unique Museum of Human Evolution, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The collections include more than 200 original fossils. We will enjoy a delicious lunch on board as the train moves to Astorga, famous for its rich medieval heritage and its special location. It is located at the crossroads of the pilgrim routes Camino de Santiago and Ruta de la Plata. Free time.
After a brief visit to Astorga and dinner, we will return to the comfort of our rooms on board the train.
4th Day: León - Monforte de Lemos
We will enjoy another breakfast in our train. Then, we will have the opportunity to make a panoramic tour of Astorga and the city of León. Also, we will visit the famous Cathedral and the 10th century Basilica of San Isidoro. Lunch on board while the train transfers guests to Monforte de Lemos, home of the Ribeira Sacra, also known as the Sacred Coast.
The town of Monforte de Lemos is surrounded by other beautiful towns in the Ribeira Sacra. We will navigate the River Sil in a Catamaran, which offers stunning views of the natural world of Galicia and hundreds of hillsides with vineyards, waiting to be turned into wine. We will discover an exquisite wine cellar, where we will learn the local wine traditions.
We will have dinner and sleep in this location in our train.
5th Day: Santiago de Compostela
We will start the day with a breakfast on board, to then make a change of transport to a comfortable air-conditioned coach that will head to Santiago de Compostela. We will discover Santiago de Compostela by foot. Santiago de Compostela’s historic quarter is among the most elegant in Spain, dotted with graceful monasteries, impressive churches, and historic palaces.
Its magnificent Gothic architecture and quaint cobbled streets are definitely worth exploring. This famous pilgrimage site in northwestern Spain became a symbol in the fight of Spanish Christians against Islam. The great heart of Santiago, the Catedral de Santiago, towers over the city in a splendid jumble of towers and sculptures.
Our trip ends at the Parador de Santiago de Compostela after the walking tour of Santiago.
